Norton and McAfee should get together and party like it's 1989.

As for myself, D'OH!-enabled products are being neutered as they come. use-application-dns.net is already NXDOMAIN'd at my BIND setup, but I'm pretty much sure Google and Mozilla are going to ignore that sooner than later because I'm a moron, according to them.
It isn't that you're a moron, it is that it isn't your software. Their software, their rules. If you don't like it, you can get off Al Gore's their internet.

I'll give 'em this. It is definitely better than Super Mario Brothers.

I have seen Super Mario Bros. I have it on VHS, in fact.

And it wasn't that bad.
I kinda love the movie, but as an adaptation of Super Mario, it is awful.

Also, I find amusing that features often demanded by non-phone-obsessed users (removable batteries, headphone jacks, memory card slots) are being confined to the low-end junk segment, alongside FM/DTV tuners. Because if you're willing to spend ONE THOUSAND AMERICAN MONEY UNITS on a cellphone, you're also willing to splurge on a beefy data plan just to be able to listen to your local radio stations instead of picking those for free from the public airwaves. Because that's totally for poor people.
Yeah, the modern tech market is baffling. Why fewer features is supposed to be indicative of higher-end is completely inscrutable to me.
I blame Apple.

Like, there are mid-range or even low-end Chinese phones (which, I still maintain, are not called that in common parlance)

You keep sticking to your guns. A man's gotta stand by what he believes in.
Your preferred terminology is still wildly offensive, though.

Tangentally, the parts of "the wall" that've been built already have holes in them because yes, mexicans can work power tools.

Also, Trump doesn't think the Texas border needs a wall because the Rio Grande is an effective barrier. Spoilers: mexicans can swim, and it ain't that big a river once agriculture's done draining it.

I would serious start questioning the grounding of your power sockets.

Finally got a grounding checker... my outlets are not grounded. I'm in the USA. Is it illegal for someone to rent me a house with ungrounded outlets? What recourse do I have?

When was the house built? Grounded outlets have been required since 1962, so if it is younger than that it is not up to code.

You are obviously completely ignorant of american politics, as you paint an alternate-reality picture that lacks the most miniscule thread to tie it to our reality.

Control of one's own computer is an actual and real issue. Consolidating one of the internet's core protocols into a handful of critical systems that take everything out when they fail is an actual and real issue. Poorly-engineered ideas being forced onto the populace because they were the pet project of someone with influence is an actual and real issue. Using the phrase "actual and real" is if it isn't a repetitive redundancy is an actual and real issue.

Gill looks pretty good imo. Random history but back in SFIII, Gill's blue/red asymmetrical design was mostly a way to showcase some kind of color swap effect (in order to avoid the SFII Sagat's eye-patch changing sides issue because of sprite mirroring).
No fancy palette effect. They're just showing off that he has a different set of sprites for when he's facing left than he does for when he's facing right. He was intentionally designed to have an obvious left and right side so everyone could tell.

Now is the perfect time to download and archive their BIOS files for all their boards and maybe host them on VOGONS drivers website.

You damn idiots! We already have a solution for this, and it's called archive.org. Seriously, put it in an archive people can use, not on your obscure forum.

That is, go through all the links, and GET web.archive.org/save/XXX, et voila, preservation work done in time for tea.
Because a single point of failure is SO fucking useful.

Don't be a complete fucking moron. More than one copy is a GOOD thing. Mirror that shit as many places as possible, and DEFINITELY in places where the people interested in it will be able to find it easily, like an enthusiast community dedicated to old IBM-compatibles.

http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/ is where it is going to wind up, I guarantee it. Look at this and tell me it isn't more useful than the fucking wayback machine.

It's not exactly redundant. If something is a real issue, it means it exists in the real world (e.g. not academic). If it's actual, it means it's a current issue that affects people. /nitpick

Real and actual are synonyms. They mean the same thing.

If you're opposed to consolidation, then why support OS DNS resolver? Under good conditions, everything works, and under bad conditions, each application having its own implementation of DNS means at least some of them will work.

Jesus fucking Buddha in a handbasket to hell, are you genuinely this stupid?
I meant MAYBE there should be a network of DNS servers, and we shouldn't all rely exclusively on three or four hosted by Cloudflare.

Personally I think they should just fix decentralized DNS already. Put all the DNS records on a "blockchain," like git, have some trusted authority sign each "block". For NXDOMAIN results, require nonexistence proofs (see CA transparency). For legally mandated censorship, add in a new return code which explicitly says "censored," the returning of which triggers a few megabytes of random requests and the permanent blacklisting of the server. Require all servers to sign all responses, and submit such protocol violations to some central authority so they can be removed from the default list.

lol blockchain

Also, hiding functionality inside an FPGA is more difficult than pretty much any other active part, because the end user can configure it virtually any way they want. Any channel for spying or tampering would require hardcoded behaviors and pinouts that are in direct opposition to FPGA usage.

Interesting to see vogonsdrivers has most of the Windows 9x Nvidia drivers. Under Windows 9x most games would require very specific video drivers in order to work correctly otherwise you'd run in to graphical bugs. Thankfully this phenomena significantly diminished with Windows XP.
Video drivers have gotten a lot better in the twenty-first century.
...
Drivers in general are better these days, actually. Which is damning with faint praise, admittedly.
