Is Super Game Boy emulation on Higan/Bsnes good? I've been trying but maybe I'm doing something wrong. On games like King of Fighters 95 and 96 the screen flashes from time to time, sprites get repeated sometimes and a part os the screen is missing:

I've included an example on mGba, but as it is not a snes emulator some improvements are missing, like the sound effects.

Sound on Higan/Bsnes is good, with improvements of the snes on sgba, but there's a humming sound. It's very low, but if you record it, it's there, and when pausing you can hear a crackling sound.

In case people are worried that mGBA is an inadequate reference for what a Super Game Boy game *should* look like, there's more screenshots of KoF '96 in the classic Fuck The Super Game Boy article. I have no idea what emulator(s) they used to get those screenshots, but given that it's an entire article about the quirks and subtleties of Super Game Boy features, I expect those screenshots should be an accurate representation.

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

Given the state of emulation in 2010, and Christine Love's in-depth exploration of uncommon SGB features, including Space Invaders and OBJ mode(lol), I'm pretty sure those are screencaps from a real Super Nintendo. I don't recall what byuu's SGB support was a decade ago, but it has to be byuuware or original hardware.

And as a favor to the curious, I'm gonna link the first article in the series so folks can read the entire set of five easily(each contains a link to the next, but not back to the prior)

Another fine case of when Engineering, Marketing and Accounting collides:

    - Engineering: "We can make the GameBoy Faster. Better. Stronger."
    - Marketing: "We must sell MILLIONS of SGBs for the holidays - there is no time for getting fancy!"
    - Accounting: "Your wet designer dreams costs money, time to drop features"

The OBJ mode entry is particularly sad :/

No, my Game Boy emulation is not good.

I kept listening to people documenting new findings on the Game Boy and releasing test ROMs for them. Every time, I implemented what they said, passed their test ROMs, and then realized I broke more and more of the actual games library in the process.

So I stopped trying while at least most games were still playable.

The Game Boy core in higan needs desperate work. I'd be happy to pay people to help me with it at this point.

For Super Game Boy emulation I'm using bsnes-plus today and have been for the last year and a half.

bsnes-plus is a debug-oriented fork of bsnes v073 maintained by devinacker which uses the Gambatte core for Super Game Boy emulation.

It works exceptionally well and I can highly recommend it.

    DRAMA!!!!

I don't quite see the problem here? What is so wrong with bsnes-plus that there has to be drama?

Super Game Boy emulation in bsnes-plus works OK for me and the games I own, granted I should be able to recommend it to someone else.

    Only fair, right?

It is a fork that has annoyed byuu for a long time, for various reasons(most notably pressing undo on low-level coprocessor emulation and ensuring people don't touch it for several years).

I didn't mean you were intentionally trying to start stuff, just that it has a history of starting stuff.

byuu wouldn't have an issue with the whole gambatte thing since it was him that implemented it originally. He's also the one who made libsnes, which became libretro. Speaking of libretro and drama....anyone hear about the recent outing of he who shall not be named?

Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know that actually.

I swear I don't want to start anything, I only recommended it based on the Super Game Boy emulation.
Also as a command line user it works really great too loading Super Game Boy games with bsnes-plus, I believe he fixed that some time ago.

I'm very little informed about these so called dramas, at the end of the day I use emulators to play my games and have some fun.

You're not starting anything, I was being silly.
